Core Responsibilities

Facilitate the Community Leadership Coalition (CLC)

The Community Leadership Coalition (CLC) is a group of dedicated leaders from Immokalee, working in various sectors such as healthcare, social services, public works, and support for immigrant families. They collaborate with organizations like Farmworker Family Voices, the Farmworker Association of Florida, and the Coalition of Immokalee Workers to protect children from environmental hazards. The CLC’s mission is to enhance community well-being by fostering communication and building trust among different community groups, including Florida State University.

Nurture and Sustain Farmworker Family Voices

Farmworker Family Voices is a group composed of farmworkers or individuals living in households with farmworkers, all of whom have at least one child under 18. This group ensures that Immokalee farmworker parents have a say in community decisions, particularly those affecting children's health and exposure to environmental hazards. The Farmworker Association of Florida facilitates this group, with support from the radio station (WCIW-LP) operated by the Coalition of Immokalee Workers.

Set Community Research Priorities

We aim to establish community research priorities to address pressing health and environmental issues affecting rural children. This initiative will involve collaboration and input from local residents and experts to identify and tackle key challenges.

Building a Community of Practice

We are developing a community of practice focused on protecting rural children from environmental stressors, both chemical and non-chemical. This initiative will follow the Project Echo Model, emphasizing a collaborative "All Teach, All Learn" approach to share knowledge and best practices.
