Personal Bio

Gregg Stanwood, Ph.D., is a Professor of Biomedical Sciences and the Co-Director of the Bioecological Center for Rural Children's Health at FSU. He also is the Associate Director of the Graduate Program in Biomedical Sciences.

Dr. Stanwood received his Ph.D. degree in Neuroscience at the University of Pennsylvania and completed postdoctoral fellowships in neurochemistry and developmental neurobiology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine with support from the National Institutes of Health and the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America Foundation. Dr. Stanwood was then recruited to the faculty of the Department of Pharmacology at Vanderbilt University and later joined FSU’s College of Medicine in 2015. Dr. Stanwood is an active member of several prominent scientific organizations, including the Society for Neuroscience, the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, the Society of Toxicology, and the Developmental Neurotoxicology Society, where he was elected President. Stanwood is Editor-in-Chief at the journal Neurotoxicology and Teratology and on many additional editorial boards. He has published over 80 peer reviewed papers and chapters and has served on dozens of grant review panels. Dr.

Stanwood’s research interests are in the developmental origins of health and disease, especially regarding socioemotional and cognitive development. He seeks to better understand how environmental factors – whether chemicals, drugs, experiences, or the built environment – can disrupt childhood development. His team’s goal is to minimize neurodevelopmental risk factors and to create resiliency at the level of individuals, families, and communities.
